• Tampa Bay snook, redfish and spotted seatrout catch-and-release measures extended

  Tuesday, August 10, 2021 -  The FWC has extended measures making snook, redfish and spotted seatrout catch-and-release only in Tampa Bay through Oct. 11.

• Recreational and commercial spiny lobster season opens Aug. 6

  Monday, August 2, 2021 -  The 2021 recreational and commercial spiny lobster season starts Aug. 6 and runs through March 31, 2022.

• Last day of recreational red snapper season in Gulf state and federal waters is July 28

  Monday, July 26, 2021 -  If you plan to fish for red snapper in state or federal waters from a private recreational vessel, even if you are exempt from fishing license requirements, you must sign up as a State Reef Fish Angler (annual renewal required).

• Greater amberjack and gray triggerfish reopen to recreational harvest in Gulf waters Aug. 1

  Friday, July 23, 2021 -  Greater amberjack is scheduled to remain open through Oct. 31 in Gulf state and federal waters. Gray triggerfish is scheduled to remain open through Dec. 31 in Gulf state and federal waters but an early quota closure is possible for either species.

• Big Bend blue crab trap closure to end early

  Friday, July 23, 2021 -  Starting July 25, blue crab traps may be placed back in state waters from Hernando through Wakulla counties, including all waters of the Ochlockonee River and Bay.

• New snook, redfish and spotted seatrout catch-and-release measures for Tampa Bay

  Friday, July 16, 2021 -  The FWC, after consultation with its partners, has temporarily made snook, redfish and spotted seatrout catch-and-release only in Tampa Bay due to recent impacts from red tide beginning today, July 16th, and continuing through September 16th.

• Big Bend blue crab trap closure starts July 20 

  Friday, July 16, 2021 -  This closure will give groups authorized by the FWC the opportunity to identify and retrieve lost and abandoned blue crab traps from the water.

• Gag grouper recreational annual closure starts July 1 from Franklin to Taylor County

  Thursday, June 24, 2021 -  The season will reopen off these counties from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31.

• Bay scallop season opens July 1 in Franklin-Jefferson, a portion of Taylor, & Levy-Hernando counties

  Wednesday, June 23, 2021 -  Will remain open through Sept. 24. This includes Carrabelle, Lanark, St. Marks, Cedar Key, Crystal River and Homosassa.

• FWC is helping pet owners tag their tegus, green iguanas to prepare for new rules

  Wednesday, June 16, 2021 -  The free regional event will be held on June 26 at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium in the Stiles-Nicholson Education Center, 4800 Dreher Trail N in West Palm Beach.
