  Wednesday, April 13, 2022 -  FWC officers were conducting an operation to monitor for stone crab vessels fishing in the closed areas of the Big Bend stone crab – shrimping zones.

• Suspect cited for 2,611 pompano over the allowable limit

  Monday, March 14, 2022 -  The FWC has charged a vessel captain with the unlawful use of a monofilament entanglement net (gill net) to take pompano outside of the Pompano Endorsement Zone in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

• FWC officers intercept commercial vessel with more than 11,000 pounds of illegally harvested shrimp

  Friday, March 11, 2022 -  During their inspection, officers discovered more than 11,000 pounds of shrimp, valued at more than $30,000, and several pounds of cobia fillets in the vessel’s freezer. Upon further inspection, officers also discovered turtle-excluder device (TED) violations.

• New FWC diamondback terrapin conservation measures in effect

  Wednesday, March 9, 2022 -  As of March 1, 2022, all collection and possession of diamondback terrapins is prohibited with the exception of scientific research with a valid permit.

• FWC detail aimed at reducing number of derelict vessels in Tampa Bay and surrounding waterways

  Tuesday, March 8, 2022 -  This operation resulted in 17 derelict vessel citations and 12 at-risk citations.

• FWC, partners remove nearly 5,000 pounds of marine debris from Citrus County coastal waters

  Wednesday, February 23, 2022 -  Volunteers met the morning of Feb. 15 to coordinate the removal of derelict crab traps around the Ozello, Crystal River and barge canal areas.

  Monday, February 21, 2022 -  The removals, which were estimated to take six months, were completed ahead of schedule.
