• Anglers: Compete in new trophy bass fishing competition, Battle of the Lakes!

  Tuesday, November 22, 2022 -  The FWC’s Florida Trophy Bass Project is pitting two popular fishing destinations against each other: Orange Lake versus Fellsmere Water Management Area (also known as Headwaters) to determine which of these two waterbodies will be the 2022-23 Florida Trophy Bass Lake of the Year.

  Thursday, November 17, 2022 -  One lucky person will soon take home a brand-new bass boat package during a live, random drawing at the Bobby Lane High School Cup Bass Fishing Tournament in Lake Wales on Dec. 3.

• FWC to host public meeting on proposed changes to striped bass regulations on lower Ochlockonee River

  Monday, October 31, 2022 -  FWC staff will discuss the proposed regulation changes at the in-person meeting scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. EST at the Joe Budd Field Office, 5300 High Bridge Road, Quincy, FL 32351.

• Update: FWC’s freshwater fisheries conservation efforts show success for shoal bass

  Thursday, October 27, 2022 -  In 2018, the Chipola River population of shoal bass was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Michael. Impacts from the storm resulted in nearly a 90% decline in the shoal bass population, which was already at risk from habitat limits and degradation as well as genetic hybridization threats.

• FWC to host Florida State Fish Art Contest

  Monday, September 19, 2022 -  Students in kindergarten through twelfth grade can compete in this free contest for a chance to win state and national honors and prizes.

• FWC announces major contribution for new pier on Lake Montgomery in Lake City

  Friday, August 12, 2022 -  The pier project was made possible by a generous private donation from the Grace and Aloysius Harter Family Trust, managed by Rose Pavey, to the FWC through the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida.

• FWC and City of Port St. Lucie working to improve fishing access and habitat at Peacock Park lake

  Wednesday, August 3, 2022 -  Earlier this year, the FWC and City of Port St. Lucie staff removed 4 acres of invasive Brazilian peppertree, treated 2 acres of invasive aquatic plants and planted native vegetation throughout the lake.

• FWC approves new black crappie fishing regulations

  Thursday, July 14, 2022 -  The regulatory changes remove waterbody-specific length and bag limits to revert to the statewide regulations of no minimum length limit and a 25-fish bag limit.

• FWC’s School Fishing Club Program expands name to include more students

  Wednesday, July 13, 2022 -  At its July meeting, the FWC unanimously approved changing the name of the High School Fishing Program to the School Fishing Club Program.
