• POSTPONED: FWC aquatic plant control on Lake Toho

  Thursday, May 20, 2021 -  The FWC has temporarily postponed its aquatic plant control on Lake Toho, originally scheduled for the week of May 17, due to high wind conditions.

• FWC approves new Florida Saltwater Fishing Record for whiting/kingfish

  Thursday, May 20, 2021 -  William Joseph Peckham caught the Gulf kingfish (whiting) of a lifetime on April 18 while fishing off Pensacola Beach. His 2.4-pound catch beat out the previous Florida Saltwater Fishing Record of 2.19 pounds.

• Atlantic snook to close in state and federal waters

  Thursday, May 20, 2021 -  Seasonal harvest closures and anglers using proper handling methods when practicing catch-and-release help conserve Florida’s valuable snook populations and can ensure the species’ abundance for anglers today and generations to come.

• Gag season starts June 1 in most Gulf state waters

  Thursday, May 20, 2021 -  Gag grouper will open for recreational harvest in most state Gulf of Mexico waters and all federal Gulf waters June 1, and will remain open through Dec. 31.

• Amberjack, gray triggerfish close June 1 in Gulf state waters

  Thursday, May 20, 2021 -  The recreational harvest of greater amberjack and gray triggerfish in Gulf of Mexico state and federal waters closes June 1 and will remain closed through July 31, reopening Aug. 1.

  Monday, May 17, 2021 -  The FWC will treat invasive hydrilla in the Osceola County lake in areas where it is encroaching on beneficial native submersed aquatic plants and may impact access to navigation and flood protection.

  Thursday, May 13, 2021 -  Snook, redfish and spotted seatrout were temporarily made catch-and-release only in this area after these fisheries were impacted by a 2017-2019 severe red tide.

• Shark interactions while fishing the focus of FWC discussion

  Wednesday, May 12, 2021 -  The FWC hosted a roundtable discussion focused on the issue of shark interactions when fishing, such as sharks taking anglers’ catch before getting it to the boat.
