• FWC TrophyCatch program ends Season 11 with a splash

  Friday, December 15, 2023 -  The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) TrophyCatch program wrapped up a successful 11th year with two major events, awarding anglers with neat prizes including a brand-new bass boat! The TrophyCatch team awarded one lucky winner a Phoenix bass boat at the Bobby Lane High School Cup fishing tournament on Dec. 2. Five finalists randomly selected from TrophyCatch registrants participated in a reverse drawing that named youth angler Curtis Collins the winner of the boat package.

• New trap tags for commercial lobster and crab traps starting Jan. 1

  Friday, December 15, 2023 -  For the 2024-25 season, all commercial trap tags will be green and printed with “FWCC,” the season year, tag type and endorsement number (for example, FWCC 24/25 VHI-123456).

• FWC to host public meeting on Lake Istokpoga management activities

  Thursday, December 14, 2023 -  The FWC is hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Bert J. Harris Agricultural Center, 4509 George Blvd., Sebring, FL 33875.

• FWC invites public to Harris Chain Open House

  Monday, December 11, 2023 -  The event will be held on Jan. 24, 2024, from 3-8 p.m. at The Venetian Center, 1 Dozier Circle, Leesburg, FL 34748.

• FWC approves modifications to two freshwater fisheries permits

  Tuesday, December 5, 2023 -  The FWC approved two rule modifications to the Black Bass Tournament Exemption Permit and the Scientific Collector’s Permit.

• Recreational harvest of flounder reopens Dec. 1

  Thursday, November 30, 2023 -  The minimum size limit for flounder is 14 inches total length and the daily recreational bag limit is five fish per person.

• Start planning for the new year: The FWC announces new Saltwater Fishing Record categories coming in 2024

  Tuesday, November 28, 2023 -  In addition to the current All Tackle and Fly-Fishing Weight categories, the FWC will add a Youth Weight category for anglers aged 15 and under, and Youth and Adult Length categories to allow for catch-and-release records.
