• 2025 recreational gag grouper season open Sept 1-14 in Gulf state waters

  Monday, July 21, 2025 -  The FWC issued an executive order to modify the recreational season of gag grouper in Gulf state waters, excluding all state waters off Monroe County.

• Blue crab trap closure for Hernando through Wakulla counties starts July 20

  Wednesday, July 16, 2025 -  This closure will allow groups authorized by the FWC to identify and retrieve lost and abandoned blue crab traps from the water.

• Bay scallop season opens July 10 in the Pasco Zone 

  Monday, July 7, 2025 -  Recreational harvesters need a Florida saltwater fishing license to harvest bay scallops unless they are exempt from needing a license or have a no-cost shoreline fishing license and are wading from shore to collect scallops.

• Bay scallop season opens July 1 in Franklin – NW Taylor County region and Levy, Citrus and Hernando counties 

  Friday, June 27, 2025 -  Harvest of bay scallops is permitted only by hand or by using a landing or dip net. Commercial harvest is prohibited. 

• Recreational harvest of Atlantic red porgy closes July 1 

  Thursday, June 26, 2025 -  Harvest will reopen in Atlantic state waters on May 1, 2026. 

• FWC to host in-person workshops for proposed rules protecting bonefish at pre-spawning aggregation site 

  Monday, June 23, 2025 -  At its May meeting, the FWC proposed establishing a 1.74-square-mile area east of Elliott Key inside BNP that would seasonally prohibit hook-and-line fishing and possession of hook-and-line gear from November through May.

• FWC to host public workshops to gather input on proposed rules for Gulf lane snapper 

  Thursday, June 19, 2025 -  Staff will provide a brief presentation on potential proposed rules before gathering public comment at the workshop. 

• Bay scallop season opens June 15 in the Fenholloway – Suwannee River Zone 

  Thursday, June 12, 2025 -  This includes all state waters in Dixie County, a portion of Taylor County including the towns of Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee, and a portion of Levy County.
