Open/Closed Status of FWC Offices, Facilities, and Managed Areas

Below is a list of FWC-managed areas and facilities, including wildlife management areas, fish management areas, shooting ranges and regional offices. If an area, in part or all, has been closed due to storm activity/other natural occurrences or for repairs/renovations, it will be noted next to the area's listing. If nothing is noted next to the name of the area, it is open.

Camping Notices: Some WMAs do not offer camping opportunities and others allow camping only during certain times of the year. In addition to checking an area’s open/closed status, please also review the WMA regulations brochure for information about camping. Also, campgrounds with restroom facilities that don't have running water (such as portable toilets and vault toilets) may not be stocked with hand hygiene products. Visitors should bring their own hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol for use in these facilities.

  • Citrus - Due to the effects of Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed all campgrounds and recreation areas beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11th, until further notice. The area remains open to public access and hunts will continue as scheduled.

  • Hatchet Creek - Due to forecasted weather impacts of Hurricane Milton, the lead land manager (St Johns River Water Management District) has closed the area beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Holton Creek - Due to forecasted weather impacts of Helene, the lead land manager (Suwannee River Water Management District) has closed the area beginning at sunset on Wednesday, Sept. 25, until further notice.
  • Homosassa – Due to the effects of Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed all campgrounds and recreation areas beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11th, until further notice. The area remains open to public access and hunts will continue as scheduled.

  • J.P. Hall Bayard Point - Due to impacts of Hurricane Milton, the lead land manager (St Johns River Water Management District) has opened the area to walk-in access only until further notice.

  • Osceola - Due to hazardous bridge conditions, the lead land manager (U.S. Forest Service) has temporarily posted as closed to vehicle traffic the following road segment: The bridge on Road 235 between the intersections of Road 235 and Roads 232 and 277, along the eastern boundary of the Big Gum Swamp Wilderness on the Osceola Wildlife Management Area. This temporary road closure is effective until further notice.
  • Potts - Due to forecasted weather impacts of Hurricane Milton, the lead land manager (Southwest Water Management District) has closed the area beginning at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.

  • Suwannee Ridge - Due to impacts from Hurricane Helene, this area is closed until further notice.
  • Thomas Creek - Kings Road Unit - Due to impacts of Hurricane Milton, the lead land manager (St Johns River Water Management District) has opened the area to walk-in access only, until further notice. Due to hazardous road conditions, the lead land manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) has temporarily closed the designated entrance on Main Gate Road and are temporarily allowing hunters to access the area via Forest Trail No. 2.   • Troy Springs - Due to impacts of Hurrican Helene, the lead land manager (Suwannee River Water Management District) has closed all campgrounds and recreation sites beginning on Friday, Oct. 11, until further notice. Hunts will continue as scheduled, but vehicle access will be limited.
  • Twin Rivers - Due to the effects of Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed all campgrounds and recreation areas beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11th, until further notice. The area remains open to public access and hunts will continue as scheduled.

  • Buck Lake - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Caravelle Ranch - Caravelle Ranch WMA South Unit, will re-open effective 12:01 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, 2024, with the following closures to remain in place due to recent rainfall associated with Hurricane Milton and high river stages: The area west of Rodman Dam Road and west of Hwy 19; Rice Field Road, Spur Road and Spur A Road on the east side of 19; and the check station campground.
    The North Unit of Caravelle Ranch WMA will remain closed until further notice.
  • Charles H Bronson - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Dunns Creek - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Emeralda Marsh PSGHA - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Etoniah Creek - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Fellsmere Area 1 PSGHA - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Fort Drum - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Gores Landing - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (Fl Dept. of Environmental Protection – Office of Greenways and Trails) will close this area to public access beginning at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7, until further notice.

  • Herky Huffman/Bull Creek - Access to the campground is allowed starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11. This area will re-open to public access beginning 12:01 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, with the following road closures in effect (see Map): Loop Road south of Yoke Branch creek crossing (the wooden bridge on the northeast section of the loop road) and south of the blown-out culvert on the west side of Loop road (approximately 2 miles south of the its intersection with the main entrance road). These closures will remain in effect until further notice.
  • Jumper Creek - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.

Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, one of the lead managers (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice so the SJRWMD’s portion of this WMA will be closed.
  • Lake George - Dexter/Mary Farms Unit - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Lake Monroe - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Lake Panasoffkee - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (Southwest Florida Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Lake Panasoffkee PSGHA - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (Southwest Florida Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Lake Woodruff NWR - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (US Fish and Wildlife Service) will be closing the refuge to public access beginning at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.   • Little Big Econ - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice. D
  • Marshall Swamp - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (Fl Dept. of Environmental Protection – Office of Greenways and Trails) will close this area to public access beginning at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7, until further notice.
  • Matanzas - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice. 
  • Merritt Island NWR - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (US Fish and Wildlife Service) will be closing the refuge to public access beginning at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice. Archery hunters with a Merritt Island quota permit may access their hunt area via State Road 3 for the 10/11 through 10/13 limited entry hunt. Please see the USFWS website for more details at details at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge | U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (fws.gov) Please observe all closures and do not enter through closed gates. Refuge facilities will reopen when it is safe to do so.
  • Ocala - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (US Forest Service) will be closing all US Forest Service administration and recreational sites on the forest beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Ocklawaha Prairie PSGHA - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Orange Creek PSGHA - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Pine Meadows PSGHA - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (Lake County) will be closing this area to public access beginning Wednesday, Oct. 9, until further notice.
  • Richloam - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Richloam - Baird Unit - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Rock Springs Run - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
    General year-round access to Rock Springs Run Reserve and WMA is by using the Florida Park Service entrance on Wekiva River Road approximately 0.5 miles south of State Road 46. Access for hunting-related activity during established quota hunts and scout days is by Deerwood Farms Road off State Road 46.
  • Ross Prairie - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Salt Lake - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, this area is closed as of 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, until further notice.
  • Seminole Forest - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Seminole Forest - Lake Tracy Unit - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
  • Seminole Ranch - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct.8, until further notice.
  • Silver Springs Forest - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct.8, until further notice. Several areas within Silver Springs Forest WMA totaling 495 acres may have timber harvest activities occurring during the hunting season - a 330-acre timber contract (map) and a 165-acre timber contract (map). This work could impact hunting within the Silver Springs Forest Wildlife Management Area. When work is occurring, please be careful with the logging trucks entering and exiting the property.   • Split Oak Forest WEA - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, this area is closed as of 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, until further notice.
  • Three Lakes - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, this area is closed as of 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, until further notice.
  • Three Lakes - Prairie Lake Unit - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, this area is closed as of 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, until further notice.
  • Tiger Bay - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.
    The bridge on Indian Lake Road at the south end is closed. (See Map) The gate at the south entrance to Rima Ridge is closed and locked to prevent access to the damaged bridge for public safety. The area is closed until further notice. The Rima Ridge Unit can be accessed from the north end at the State Road 40 entrance.
  • Tiger Bay - Rima Ridge Unit - Due to the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead area manager (Florida Forest Service) has closed the area to all public access, including all campgrounds, recreation areas and public hunts, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, until further notice.

  • Upper St Johns River Marsh - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, the lead manager (St. Johns River Water Management District) will be closing all District lands to public access beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct.8, until further notice.
  • William Beardall Tosohatchee - Due the forecasted effects of Hurricane Milton, this area is closed as of 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, until further notice.
    Heavy rain and flooding from Hurricane Ian compromised multiple culverts on Powerline Road. Powerline Road is closed from Parking Area 10 (Florida Trail Footbridge) to Parking Area 11 (Mud Lake Observation Platform) until further notice. Users can access the St. Johns River by taking Fishhole Road to Long Bluff Road.

Camping Notices: Some WMAs do not offer camping opportunities and others allow camping only during certain times of the year. In addition to checking an area’s open/closed status, please also review the WMA regulations brochure for information about camping.  Also, campgrounds with restroom facilities that don't have running water (such as portable toilets and vault toilets) may not be stocked with hand hygiene products. Visitors should bring their own hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol for use in these facilities.

    • Water Conservation Area 2 (2A and 2B) and that portion of Water Conservation Area 3A South located east of the Miami Canal between 1-75 and the L-67A levee remains open to public access.
    • Boat ramps remain open. Vessels, other than airboats, may be operated in established canals. 
    • The public access gate along U.S. 27 that provides access to the L-6 levee, including the Sportsman’s Crossover boat ramp, is temporarily closed to all public access due to construction activities.
    • NOTE: portions of Loxahatchee Road will be closed due to construction.   • Holey Land - Due to high water conditions, the Holey Land Wildlife Management Area is closed to all public access until further notice. The Holey Land WMA northwestern corner boat ramp and approximately 1.7 miles of the L23 eastern levee south of that boat ramp will be closed to public access through December 2024 due to construction activities. Also, vehicles with trailers are advised not to drive down any portion of the L23 eastern levee because there is no turnaround location. 
    6/12/24 - Due to habitat activities associated with mechanical treatments, a 148-acre parcel in the southeastern portion of the area near the L-5 levee will be closed to all public access through November 2024 (see the PDF notice on the brochure webpage for a map of the closed area). 
  • Hungryland - Pedestrian and vehicular access through Gate 9 is temporarily prohibited due to culvert failure.

  • Picayune Strand - Kirkland Hammock Campground is closed through November 10. Triple G Loop Road, connecting both sides of Sabal Palm Road, will be closed until further notice to prevent additional road damage.
