Escribano Point - Things to Do

Hunting

Couple Turkey Hunters

Hunters will find seasons for archery, muzzleloading gun, general gun, small game and spring turkey. A quota permit is required for all seasons except small game. Check the regulations summary brochure and hunt calendar before you visit.

If you see a sick or abnormally thin deer or deer dead of unknown causes, please report its location to the CWD hotline, (866) CWD-WATCH (293-9282).

Fishing

Enjoy year-round freshwater and saltwater fishing. Catfish, black bass and bream are the most popular freshwater species taken; saltwater favorites include red drum, spotted seatrout, flounder, striped bass and sheepshead. Carry appropriate licenses and permits.

Wildlife Viewing

The diverse fresh and saltwater habitats support a variety of resident and migratory wildlife, from deer and turkey to beaver and black bear. Visit the Wildlife page for more details.

Hiking

Just under three miles of hiking trails wind through Escribano Point WMA. The trails pass through restored sandhill habitat and offer glimpses at a wide variety of plant and animal species.

The Bayside Loop and Blackwater Loop trails can be accessed from the parking area at the Bayside Recreational Area or from a parking area off of Grassy Point Road. The Bayside Loop travels 0.5 miles while the Blackwater Loop, an extension off of the Bayside Loop, is 0.2 miles in its entirety. Watch for seasonally wet conditions near the beginning of the Bayside Loop.

The Fundy Bayou Loop begins and ends at the Bayou Recreational Area informational kiosk. Follow the white blazes on the trees as you pass through the oaks and pines that make up this intact sandhill habitat. The trail travels 0.78 miles and creatures ranging from bald eagles, to neotropical warblers, to southern black racers may be seen along the trail.
