Chassahowitzka - Things to Do

Chassahowitzka Trail

Abundant wildlife and a range of outdoor activities reward visitors to Chassahowitzka’s diverse habitats. For information on recreation opportunities, wildlife viewing tips and a detailed map, download the Chassahowitzka WMA Recreation Guide.

Chassahowitzka has feral hogs, a moderate deer herd, wild turkey, and fair numbers of small game and waterfowl. As restoration of the uplands proceeds, prescribed burns in the sandhills and flatwoods should improve the habitat for deer. Hunting pressure is heaviest during general gun season. Some hunts require a quota permit, which offers a higher-quality hunting experience. Check the regulations summary brochure and hunt calendar before you visit.

If you see a sick or abnormally thin deer or deer dead of unknown causes, please report its location to the CWD hotline, (866) CWD-WATCH (293-9282).

Hiking, Biking & Horseback Riding
