Scouting is an important part of preparing for your alligator hunt. If you are scouting during nonhunting hours or during a day you are not licensed to hunt, you must keep all alligator hunting equipment disassembled and stowed away or leave it at home.

You may scout for alligators at any time on most areas, but there are harvest units with restricted access before, and/or during, the alligator season. Find information about specific harvest units (Scroll to section titled: "Maps").

If you're hunting a stormwater treatment area (STA) or A-1 FEB please review this important STA information before you go.

While it's a good idea to complete an approved Florida hunter safety course before taking part in the statewide alligator harvest, it is not required by law.

You also can get ready for the upcoming hunt by reviewing the FWC’s free online alligator harvest training class. This 22-minute training opportunity isn’t required but is another easy way for hunters to get up to speed on rules and regulations, equipment and methods, safety, and more. This virtual training replaces the in-person classes offered in year’s past.
