Hilochee Wildlife Management Area
Find high-quality quota hunts, numerous fishing opportunities and abundant wildlife along trails and roads open to hiking, bicycling and horseback riding.
Diverse upland and wetland habitats support both rare and common species that include gopher tortoises, wild turkey and white-tailed deer.
Hilochee’s habitats, a significant part of the Green Swamp ecosystem, are being restored to their historic, healthy functions.
Past timber production, agriculture and mining activity on Hilochee significantly altered natural habitats and set the stage for an aggressive restoration effort underway today.
Hilochee WMA consists of separate units located in Lake and Polk counties. The main unit is 10 miles south of Clermont; the Osprey Unit is 15 miles northeast of Lakeland.
