Half Moon Wildlife Management Area
Enjoy hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing and a network of trails open for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding.
Spot diverse wildlife species such as Florida scrub-jay, sandhill crane, Sherman’s fox squirrel and gopher tortoise.
Restoring longleaf pine habitat and other management at Half Moon helps to protect the Floridan Aquifer, the source of most of Florida’s drinking water.
The site preserves features of 19th- and 20th-century use of the area by local inhabitants.
Half Moon WMA is located near the junction of SR 44 and CR 247 in Sumter County, 8 miles east of Inverness and 7 miles west of I-75.
