Cleaning and Cooking

Cleaning and cooking your harvested wild turkey

After you harvest a wild turkey, you will need to clean it. But until you are ready to do so, keep the turkey as cool as possible by avoiding direct sunlight, and if possible, put the bird on ice.

There are many online videos of delicious wild turkey recipes, including several developed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in partnership with the FWC.  The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) also has many delicious recipes. However you choose to prepare it, wild turkey provides a healthy, organic and delicious feast you can share with friends and family.

You may want to display the tail feathers, beard and/or spurs with a simple-to-create and beautiful mount to commemorate your hunt.
