Why is the camping reservation process changing?
- At the February 2025 FWC Commission Meeting, Commissioners approved a rule change to require a no-cost permit for camping at J.W. Corbett WMA. This brings the camping reservation process closer in line with other areas throughout the WMA system. The change goes into effect July 1, 2025.
How do I get a permit?
- Campers can acquire a no-cost permit up to 14 days in advance of their anticipated camping stay through the booking system below.
- The permit should be displayed at the campsite so that it is easily visible.
Can I reserve earlier than 14 days out?
- No-cost permits will not be available in the reservation system more than 14 days in advance of the first day of a camping reservation.
- The 14-day window is consistent with most FWC campgrounds and helps ensure permits are issued fairly and within a time frame when most users are sure of their camping plans.
What if I do not have access to a computer to make a reservation online?
- Permits may be obtained either by making a reservation online or by calling the J.W. Corbett WMA Field Office (561) 624-6989 during regular business hours (Mon – Fri, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. EST).
What are the access hours for camping?
- For hunting season camping permits, permit holders can enter on the day their reservation starts and must vacate the campground within 24 hours following their reservation. See the regulations summary brochure for more details.
- Reservations are booked on a nightly basis outside of hunting season. The permit holder can arrive on Friday and must vacate the campground by 11 a.m. on Monday. See the regulations summary brochure for more details.
Does a permit guarantee me the space I want?
- Currently, specific sites are not designated within the campgrounds and permits do not guarantee a specific site within the campground.
- Camping remains on a first-come, first-served basis.
- As the overall J.W. Corbett WMA Campground Improvement Plan progresses and campground infrastructure is improved, permits will designate specific sites within improved campgrounds.
What is the J.W. Corbett WMA Campground Improvement Plan?
- FWC’s Division of Habitat and Species Conservation, in collaboration with the Division of Hunting and Game Management and the Office of Executive Director, is currently designing infrastructure improvements with the goal of providing a safe and comfortable experience for campers at J.W. Corbett WMA.
- Campground improvement projects currently underway include:
- Design and permitting for a dump station amenity for RV campers.
- Improvements to accessibility and access at the North entrance.
- Finalizing the design and permitting for a revision of the infrastructure at Campground G, where there will be improved, designated campsites for RVs as well as tent-only campsites and a vault toilet.
- Future campground improvements will provide similar infrastructure with designated campsites across the WMA and the relocation of campsites out of wetland areas to protect important wildlife habitat.
