Resident Canada Geese
Sometimes resident, or non-migratory Canada geese damage property or crops, introduce disease, or present threats to public safety. Many times these conflicts can be resolved by taking some simple steps, like removing food sources. To learn more about how to coexist with Canada geese, visit the Canada goose species profile page.
The following links provide information about permits to deal with nuisance situations:
Nest/Egg Depredation Registration - If you are a landowner, homeowner’s association, public land manager, or local government, you may register at this site for federal authorization to destroy resident Canada goose nests and eggs on property under your jurisdiction. With this permit you may control eggs and nests year-round, but please take note of the reporting requirements and other provisions.
Depredation Order for Agricultural Facilities - This permit authorizes landowners (and their employees and agents) to take Canada geese and nests to reduce depredation to commercial agricultural operations.
