Hammock Camp - 17 campsites, including 1 ADA RV site and a vault toilet; 7 of those sites allow for tent camping only and 10 sites allow for tents and/or campers or small RVs (see individual site description for maximum height/length).

Kowechobe Camp - 20 sites that are suitable for tents, campers or RVs depending on time of year due to inundated site conditions effecting campsite access.  

All campers must obtain a free permit/site reservation using the online reservation system or by calling the South Regional Office at (561) 625-5122, during regular business hours only (Mon-Fri, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. ET). The permit must be displayed at the campsite at all time by placing a copy of the permit in the brochure box at the Hammock Campground.

  • 14 consecutive days must pass before an individual may obtain a new permit in either campground and the campgrounds must be vacated upon expiration of the permit. The only exception is quota hunt permit holders may obtain a new camping permit anytime while their quota permit is valid.
  • No individual may hold more than one permit at a time. The only exception is quota hunt permit holders booking separate weekend reservations within the time their quota permit is valid.

 

Camping within designated campgrounds is allowed by permit only and subject to permit provisions. Camping is prohibited outside designated campgrounds. Camping is available all-year round.

Permits may be obtained up to 14 days in advance. Individuals may apply for a maximum of 14 consecutive days within a given month. 14 consecutive days must pass before an individual may obtain a new permit in either campground and the campgrounds must be vacated upon expiration of the permit. No individual may hold more than one permit at a time.

There are two designated campgrounds on the Dinner Island Ranch Wildlife Management Area in Hendry County: Hammock Camp contains 17 campsites, of which 7 allow for tent camping only and 10 sites allow for tents and/or campers or small RVs; Kowechobe Camp contains 20 campsites that are suitable for tents, campers or RVs and are best to access during the dry season (approximately November thru April).  Camping is primitive with no amenities, other than a vault toilet at Hammock Camp. All camping equipment is to be contained within the boundary of the designated campsite. Vehicles must be parked adjacent to or within their camping spot. FWC asks all visitors to haul out what you hauled in. Please help keep these natural areas natural.

 Any violation of permit stipulations may result in cancelation of the permit and/or in citation. Permits are also subject to cancelation if campsites are left unoccupied for more than 48 hours during permitted dates.

 

  1. No more than six people and two tents allowed per site. RV sites are limited to one RV and one tent. Only two vehicles per site are permitted in the Hammock Camp.
  2. Quiet hours are observed between 10 PM to 4 AM (excluding permitted generator use) upon which violation may result in permit cancellation. No generators may be operated in camp sites 1-6 in the Hammock Camp.
  3. Campers must observe all WMA rules and regulations.
  4. All equipment must be contained within the boundary of the designated sites and be removed from the area upon permit expiration.
  5. No person shall bring building materials onto the area or erect permanent or semi-permanent structures.
  6. Camping is limited to tents, trailers or self-propelled camping vehicles. Kitchen stoves, refrigerators, and freezers are prohibited, unless contained in mobile campers. Lumber, fence posts, wood pallets, sheet metal or other building materials are prohibited.
  7. Permit holder is responsible for the actions and/or violation of permit provisions of all persons using the site.
  8. Cutting of vegetation and standing trees (alive or dead) is prohibited.
  9. All food and garbage must be stored in a manner that will prevent access by wildlife. All trash must be hauled out of the area.  
  10. Pets are allowed but must be kept under physical restraint at all times.
  11. Camp fires must remain within the designated site and be completely extinguished before leaving the campsite. Bring your own firewood.
  12. Camping permit must be displayed in a manner visible to law enforcement and FWC area staff.
  13. Littering and disposing of any waste products such as graywater, petroleum products, toxic materials, batteries, etc. is prohibited anywhere in the campground, vault toilets, or the WMA.
  14. Any violation of permit stipulations may result in permit cancelation and/or citation.
  15. Cancelled permits and/or permit holders (including any persons using their site) issued a citation due to any violation of camping permit provisions shall not be permitted to camp or book a reservation in either campground until 30 consecutive days has passed since the date of cancellation/violation.

 

From downtown Clewiston: Drive west for 12 miles on US 27/SR 80 to the intersection of County Road 833. Drive south for 18 miles on County Road 833 until arrival at the WMA’s main entrance on the west side of the road. Drive along the entrance road until the sign for the campground is reached.

From Fort Myers: Take FL 82 approximately 26 miles east to SR 29. Drive south on SR 29 for approximately 6 miles through Immokalee and turn left onto the County Road 846 intersection. Drive east on County Road 846 for 18 miles until the intersection of County Road 833 is reached. Travel north on County Road 833 for 2.5 miles until arrival at the WMA’s main entrance on the west side of the road and follow directions above to the campgrounds.
