Atlantic Recreational Red Snapper Workshops
Have ideas for the future of Atlantic recreational red snapper management?

FWC is hosting a series of public workshops to gain input from anglers that will shape the recreational red snapper fishery in the South Atlantic, including state management.
FWC recognizes that the current recreational management structure for Atlantic red snapper is not working. Like you, FWC has been frustrated with extremely short federal fishing seasons despite record abundance levels and an improved stock status. FWC wants your input on what you want for the future of the Atlantic recreational red snapper fishery. Specifically, we would like feedback on potential management measures.
As FWC works towards state-management of the recreational red snapper fishery in the Atlantic, we are seeking feedback on specific components of a potential season.
- What season structure (i.e., time of year, length of season, weekends vs. weekdays) would be ideal?
- Should there be a minimum size limit?
- What should the bag limit be?
- Should we consider a vessel limit?
- Should regulations differ between for-hire (charter and headboats) and private anglers?
- Would you be willing to fish under an aggregate bag limit and stop bottom fishing once the aggregate limit or the red snapper limit is met?
- Would you be willing to report data via an app? What data should be collected in a reporting app?
- Do you have ideas on how to reduce discards?
- Would you be interested in regional management?
We welcome feedback on the above topics, along with any other ideas you have for the management of Atlantic red snapper. To provide comment, you can use the comment box below, email Marine@MyFWC.com, or attend a public workshop to comment in person.
