Make Florida your next bass fishing destination

The Florida Trophy Bass Project is the FWC’s new initiative with the goal of Florida being the undisputed Trophy Bass Capital of the World. More effort is being focused on producing, documenting, and promoting trophy bass as well as increasing opportunities to catch Florida’s heaviest trophies. FWC biologists are utilizing both proven and innovative management techniques to grow even more large bass in certain areas while also conducting research projects to learn more about what it takes to grow giant bass.
An integral component is TrophyCatch, a citizen-science conservation program that rewards anglers who catch, document and release largemouth bass weighing 8 pounds and heavier. Data collected through the program help the FWC enhance and promote bass fishing across Florida. Anglers who wish to participate can visit TrophyCatch.com to register and learn more.
BASS STATS:
- Over 15,000 catches have been approved into the TrophyCatch citizen-science program.
- This includes 159 Hall of Fame Club catches weighing 13 pounds or more, each of which would exceed the State Record in about half the country.
- More than 51,000 registered anglers support the program and the industry related conservation partners who provide prizing.
- TrophyCatch data combined with trophy bass tagging research estimates that Florida's public waters hold 18,000-33,000 trophy bass, of which 3,000-6,000 are caught by anglers each year. Be included in that number by making Florida your next bass fishing destination!
