Fixture Approval Process
FWC is no longer accepting fixtures for 2019. The 2020 Wildlife Lighting Electronic Pre-Review Period will be announced on this web page in the coming months.
The Electronic Pre-Review Period is for fixtures/lamps that need to be recertified and new fixtures/lamps you will like staff at FWC to review prior to the submittal period. Please note, in order to be certified, fixtures/lamps need to meet all three Wildlife Lighting Criteria. Thank you for your interest in the protection of Florida’s marine turtles, nests, hatchlings, and nesting habitat!
To have a fixture or lamp reviewed in the announced Electronic Pre-Review Period, the manufacturer should submit the following to Wildlifelighting@myfwc.com.
- Specification/cutsheets of each fixture/lamp.
- Photos of fixtures/lamps. For fixtures, the photos should clearly depict that the fixtures meet or exceed full-cutoff.
- Spectral distribution chart (if available).
- LM-79 Report (if available).
- Shielding options (if available).
Once the above information is received, FWC staff will decide if the fixtures/lamps meet the qualifications and will contact you to arrange for a sample to be sent in the mail to our offices during the submittal period. Directions on the submittal period are below. If your products do not meet the Wildlife Lighting Criteria, the Electronic Pre-Review Process is where FWC staff will provide recommendations to improve your fixtures/lamps to be certified.

The submittal period is when fixtures/lamps can be submitted by mail to FWC for review. You must complete the Electronic Pre-Review Period (above) before submitting any fixtures/lamps by mail, however, to prepare prior, the following needs to be included by mail:
- Submittal Form
- Fixture/Lamp. If there are a series of fixtures, one fixture can be submitted by mail to represent that series.
- LM-79 report (If available).
- Status of UL certification (If available).
- Shielding options (If available).
- To have your submitted product returned after testing, please provide a prepaid shipping label for either UPS or FEDEX, whichever is preferred, and arrange for the shipping company to pick up the package at the address provided.
Please note, all submitted fixtures and luminaires must be fitted with a plug that fits into a standard 120v wall socket. If you are submitting an individual lamp for testing, you must provide a fixture for the lamp to be tested in that is fitted with a plug that fits into a regular wall socket.
Wildlife Lighting Certifications are only valid for 2 years from the date of issuance. Fixtures and lamps that were certified prior to 2016 are required to be resubmitted for recertification. If you are unsure if your product needs to be resubmitted for recertification, please send an email to Wildlifelighting@myfwc.com for verification.
If a product becomes Wildlife Lighting certified, we must be provided with the name of the product, the catalog number, manufacturer, a digital photograph of the product, and a cutsheet/specification sheet that displays only the certified product and approved options. Once this information is received, your product will be added to our website and we will emailed a formal letter and certificate acknowledging the certification of your product and granting you use of the Wildlife Lighting logo. The cutsheet or specification sheet must only contain the special options (i.e., shielding and lamping options) that meet the Wildlife Lighting criteria in order to display the Wildlife Lighting logo.
