Wildlife Lighting Certification Program

CLOSED for 2023. Will reopen in Fall/Winter 2024.

NEW CERTIFICATIONS

Electronic Pre-Review

The Electronic Pre-Review period is for new fixtures and lamps that need to be reviewed by FWC staff prior to the submittal period. Please be advised, in order to be considered for approval, fixtures and lamps must meet ALL THREE Wildlife Lighting Criteria.

1. To have fixtures or lamps reviewed, manufacturers must submit all the following to WildlifeLighting@MyFWC.com:

  • Specification/cutsheets for each fixture,
  • including documentation on options such as baffles, louvers, diffusers, and available shielding.
  • Specification sheet for each lamp
  • Photos for each fixture
  • Spectral distribution chart and/or LM-79 report*
  • Photometric file (.ies)

*For all pole and roadway fixtures, FWC will now require LM-79 reports from a third-party tester.  Please advise, this testing does not replace physical submission for the certification process.

2. Once this information is received, FWC will review the documents electronically and determine if the fixtures or lamps meet the Wildlife Lighting Criteria:

  • If the fixtures are approved for testing, FWC staff will arrange for physical testing.  Please DO NOT send products without prior consent.
  • If the fixtures are not approved for testing, FWC will provide recommendations to improve fixtures for certification.

Submittal Period:

The submittal period is for new fixtures and lamps to be submitted by mail for physical testing.

The Electronic Pre-Review must be completed and FWC must arrange for physical testing prior. Please DO NOT send products without prior consent.

1. To submit products for physical testing, manufacturers must submit all the following by mail:

  • Product Submittal Form
  • Fixtures/lamps/optional accessories such as baffles, louvers, diffusers, and available shielding (All fixtures must be fitted with a plug that fits into a standard 120V wall socket).
  • Specification/cutsheets for each fixture
  • Prepaid return shipping label*

*Return shipping labels must be for either UPS or FEDEX, whichever is preferred. The FWC no longer accepts account numbers. Manufacturers are responsible for arranging for the shipping company to pick up their packages. The FWC will provide the shipping address prior to submittal.

2. If fixtures or lamps are recommended for certification, the FWC will provide an evaluation and reach out to manufacturers to finalize the certification. If fixtures are not recommended for certification, the FWC will provide an evaluation with recommendations and allow the opportunity to resubmit products.

Certification

During the Submittal Period, FWC determines if a fixture or lamp is recommended for certification.

If the fixtures or lamps are recommended for certification, FWC will provide the manufacturer with the specific caveats for required accessories and where the fixture may be used.

The manufacturer must provide FWC with the cutsheet for the approved fixture or lamp with only the approved options listed and the FWC provided caveats as well as digital photos that will be used on FWC’s Certified Wildlife Lighting website.

Once this information is received, FWC will provide the manufacturer with their Wildlife Lighting Certification, authorize the use of the Official Wildlife Lighting Logo only for the manufacturer and model number approved in the certification letter, and update the website with the newly certified fixtures/lamps.

Wildlife Lighting Certifications will be valid for 2 years from the date of issuance.

RECERTIFICATIONS

FWC is requiring all fixtures to be submitted for certification rather than recertification at this time as some of the certification requirements have changed.
