Red Tide Educational Video Series
As part of an ongoing education effort on red tide research, FWRI has been creating an animated video series to provide information for residents and visitors about red tide in Florida marine and estuarine waters. Videos are designed to educate on what red tide is, health risks for humans and pets, where to find useful information resources online, and how to keep yourself healthy and safe. Each video is accompanied by shorter segments for organizations and media outlets to use in their communications and are available in both English and Spanish. As of June 2024, three videos have been completed and released.

When a red tide bloom occurs off Florida’s coast, where can you go to find an up-to-date map showing the known extent of the bloom? This video will show you all the online tools FWC makes available to track red tide blooms as they occur, including our interactive daily sample map.
In 2020, the reactivated Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Task Force identified a need in their first consensus document for communication efforts to better educate the public about red tide and other HABs. In response, the FWC HAB Grants program funded the “Developing a Communications Strategy for Red Tide in Florida” study conducted by Florida Sea Grant and a HAB communication working group was formed. The videos in this series were created, in part, to address some of the group’s recommendations.
