Little Big Econlockhatchee Wildlife Management Area

Managed in cooperation with the Florida Forest Service.

The Little Big Econlockhatchee Wildlife Management Area is located in southeastern Seminole County and covers more than 7,000 acres of protected land. The area includes seven miles of the Little Big Econ River and its surrounding floodplain forests. It also serves as part of a 100-mile wildlife corridor along the St. Johns River, providing important habitat for a wide variety of species.

Fishing

Fishing is permitted year-round. A Florida fishing license is required and can be purchased at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com.

Camping

Primitive camping is available for paddlers and requires a permit from the Florida Forest Service. Call (407) 971-3500 for more information.

Recreation

Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities with three trailhead parking areas providing access for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. The scenic Econlockhatchee River also offers a peaceful paddling experience along a state-designated trail.

Wildlife

River floodplain forests and oak hammocks are home to gray foxes, river otters, bobcats, resident and migratory waterfowl, wood storks, wading birds, shorebirds and numerous upland species including white-tailed deer and wild turkeys, Other common sightings include sandhill cranes, roseate spoonbills, bald eagles, ospreys and hawks.

The area is part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail.
