Kissimmee River Public Use Area

Managed in cooperation with South Florida Water Management District.
The Kissimmee River Public Use Area covers more than 30,000 acres along the Kissimmee River, stretching from State Road 60 southward to Lake Okeechobee, across parts of Glades, Highlands, Okeechobee, Osceola and Polk counties. Primarily accessible by boat via numerous ramps, this area is part of the Kissimmee River Restoration Project, authorized by Congress in 1992. This ambitious restoration effort is essential for revitalizing the ecosystems of Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades. Upon completion, the project will have restored 40 square miles of river and floodplain habitats, benefiting wildlife and enhancing the region’s natural beauty.
