Homosassa Wildlife Management Area

Managed in cooperation with the Florida Forest Service.

Homosassa Wildlife Management Area consists of more than 5,000 acres in southwest Citrus County between the Homosassa and Chassahowitzka rivers and near the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge. The area is a management unit of the Withlacoochee State Forest and consists of forested wetlands, planted pines and improved pastures.

Hunting

Hunting of white-tailed deer, wild hogs, migratory birds, small game and turkey is permitted in season.

Fishing

Fishing is permitted year-round. A Florida fishing license is required and can be purchased at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com.

Camping

Camping is not available at this area.

Recreation

Bicycling, hiking and wildlife viewing are allowed in the area, with a designated trail available for hiking. However, horseback riding is not permitted.

Wildlife

Wildlife on this area include white-tailed deerwild hogswild turkey and wood duck.

This area is a site on the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail.
