Dunns Creek Wildlife Management Area

Dunns Creek

Managed in cooperation with the St. Johns River Water Management District.

Dunns Creek Wildlife Management Area consists of more than 3,000 acres in eastern Putnam County, along the east side of Dunns Creek. The majority of the area is floodplain swamp and hydric hammock, with smaller upland areas of pine flatwoods and mixed forests.

During hunting seasons, access is limited to people who have a valid quota hunt permit.

Fishing

Fishing is permitted year-round. A Florida fishing license is required and can be purchased at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com.    

Camping

Only tent camping is allowed and only at designated campsites. For more information visit the St. Johns River Water Management District camping page.

Recreation

The area offers a variety of outdoor activities, including wildlife viewing, hiking, horseback riding and bicycling. Boating and paddling are also welcome, although there isn’t a boat ramp on-site. 

Wildlife

This area supports numerous reptiles and amphibians as well as bobcatsraccoonswhite-tailed deer and gray foxes. Both migratory and resident birds are found on the area including wood ducksswallow-tailed kitesred-shouldered hawksbarred owlsyellow-crowned night herons, woodpeckers and warblers.
