Apalachicola WMA - Bradwell Unit

This small unit (1,420 acres) of the Apalachicola Wildlife Management Area in Liberty County is bordered by the Ochlockonee River to the east and south and Highway 20 to the north. The area is part of the Apalachicola National Forest and consists mainly of bottomland hardwoods, swamps, drains and uplands pine (predominately pine plantations). Most of the area is pinelands with some oaks along the Ochlockonee River. Quota hunt permits are required except during wild hog-dog, wild hog-still, and small game seasons. Hog-Management Dog Hunts and Hog-Management Still Hunts take place on select weekends during May - September and require a quota hunt permit. See list below for links to regulations brochure. Outside of hunting season, hiking, biking and horseback riding are permitted. Biking is allowed only on Forest Road 194. Children under the age of 16 are required to wear a helmet when horseback riding on public lands. For more detailed information go to Nicole's Law. All horseback riders must have proof of current negative Coggins Test results for their horses when on state lands. Wildlife that can be seen include white-tailed deer, turkey, osprey, wood ducks, and great blue herons. Pittman Creek, Forest Road 194, and a network of foot trails traverse the area. The Ochlockonee River is popular with paddlers and anglers. Camping is prohibited on this area. Kitchen stoves, refrigerators and freezers (unless contained in mobile campers) lumber, sheet metal or other building materials or permanent improvements are not allowed by the Water Management District. Also see the Apalachicola WMA Web site for complete information on the area.
