FWC conducts aquatic plant control on Lake Rousseau

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will conduct aquatic plant control in portions of Lake Rousseau in parts of Citrus, Levy and Marion counties the week of February 23, weather permitting. The FWC will treat invasive hydrilla in areas where it is encroaching on beneficial native submersed aquatic plants and where it may negatively impact navigation and flood protection. There are no restrictions for swimming, fishing, or turf irrigation after treatment.

The FWC manages hydrilla on a lake-by-lake basis through a collaborative approach. Management decisions are based on the plant’s impact on native vegetation, navigational access, flood control, and overall management costs.
