Wildlife Conflict - Use of Steel Traps

Steel trap permits are issued through application by FWC’s regional offices for specific locations where property damage, depredation, or predation is occurring or anticipated to occur or when the FWC determines that wildlife is presenting a threat to public safety. Permits may be issued to take coyotes, red fox, gray fox, bobcats, beavers, raccoons, opossums, and otters.

Persons so authorized may sell the furs or carcasses of such animals, provided they have a Furbearer Trapping License and present a copy of their Steel Trap Permit to the licensed dealer or buyer. The dealer or buyer must retain a copy of the permit in his records. Only lawfully acquired furbearers or parts there from may be possessed, transported or sold.
