Residency Information for Commercial Saltwater Licenses

To be considered a Florida resident for commercial saltwater purposes, you must be:

• A person who has continuously resided in the state of Florida for a period of one year preceding the application for a license.  Acceptable proof of residency includes:

1. Valid Florida driver license;
2. Valid Florida identification card;
3. Florida voter information card;
4. Proof of Florida homestead exemption.

• A person who has continuously resided in the state of Florida for at least one (1) year and can provide documentation of permanent residency status from the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

For commercial saltwater purposes, a non-resident is a person who has not continuously resided in the state of Florida for a period of one year preceding the application for a license.

For commercial saltwater purposes, an alien is:

• A person who has not resided in the state of Florida for at least one year and can provide documentation of permanent residency status from the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
• A person who does not have documentation from the Immigration and Naturalization Service showing permanent residency status in the United States.

To be considered a Florida resident for commercial saltwater purposes, your business must be formed under Florida Statute and carrying active files with the Florida Department of State.

To be considered a non-resident for commercial saltwater purposes, your business is formed in a state other than Florida, even though authorized by the Florida Department of State to do business in Florida.

To be considered an Alien for commercial saltwater purposes, your business is a foreign corporation and thus formed outside the United States.
