Sergeant Jimmy Lee Cook

Head and shoulders photo of Sergeant Jimmy Lee Cook and details related to his Dec. 8, 1972 end of watch

On Dec. 8, 1972, Sergeant Jimmy Lee Cook and Officer Gary Colson completed a routine patrol of Lake Lowery. While Officer Colson went ashore to retrieve the boat trailer, Sergeant Cook took the patrol boat back to the lake to check it. After about 15 minutes, Officer Colson became concerned when Sergeant Cook had not returned to the boat ramp. Officer Colson borrowed a boat to look for Sergeant Cook and located his patrol boat circling in the lake but found no sign of him. Sergeant Cook’s body was recovered two days later. It is assumed he was thrown overboard and drowned.

Colleagues and loved ones remember Sergeant Jimmy Lee Cook, who was thrown from his patrol vessel and drowned while on duty for the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission.
