Focal Species: Wood storks, herons, egrets, anhingas.

This small island maintains an important wood stork rookery. Wood storks are a federally endangered species. The island and surrounding waters are closed to public access during the nesting season.

Financial support for Myakka River Critical Wildlife Area in-water markers was provided by the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida, Inc. through the Conserve Wildlife Tag grant program.
