Focal Species: Brown pelicans, little blue herons, tricolored herons, snowy egrets, great blue herons, great egrets, black-crowned night herons, green herons.

Matanzas Pass Island CWA is a spoil island located northwest of the Matanzas Pass Bridge in the Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve. Wading birds and diving birds use the island for nesting and roosting year-round. This CWA is included in the Estero Bay Rookery Monitoring Program.

Financial support for Matanzas Pass Island Critical Wildlife Area in-water markers was provided by the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida, Inc. through the Conserve Wildlife Tag grant program.
