Commissioner Sonya Rood
Sonya Rood, of Jacksonville, began her service to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in December 2017. She was then appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis on May 20, 2022, for a term ending January 6, 2027.
Commissioner Rood has lived in Florida since 2000, and enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking and birdwatching. She is actively engaged in her community, supporting various charities and local nonprofit organizations.
Rood was born and raised in Lake Jackson, Texas, and attended Brazosport College. She is married to John Rood, a former FWC Commissioner and Chairman. They have four children and eight grandchildren.
