Lochloosa Wildlife Management Area

Managed in cooperation with the St. Johns River Water Management District.
Lochloosa Wildlife Management Area surrounds Lochloosa Lake in southeastern Alachua County, helping to protect both water quality and the area's rich diversity of plant and animal life. Spanning more than 11,000 acres, it provides essential habitat for a wide range of wildlife.

Fishing
Fishing is permitted year-round. A Florida fishing license is required and can be purchased at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com.
Camping
Camping is not available at this area.
Recreation
Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including wildlife viewing, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, canoeing and boating. Please note that while boating is allowed, there are no boat launches available on the property.

Wildlife
The pine forests and oak-covered ridges in this area provide homes for many birds, including bald eagles, osprey and wading birds. The area also supports protected species, including Florida black bear, fox squirrel, eastern indigo snake, wood stork and sandhill crane.
This area is a site on the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail.
