Python Pickup Program Frequently Asked Questions
The FWC’s Python Pickup Program is a new incentive program that is designed to encourage the public to kill and report Burmese pythons to the FWC. The first time a participant submits proof of a python they have killed, they will receive a t-shirt. For each proof of python submitted, participants will gain one entry into the grand prize drawing.
Anyone can participate in the FWC’s Python Pickup Program! However, we recommend children under 18 be supervised by an adult. Anyone that would like some basic instructions on safely capturing pythons can view our training video, “Safe Capture of Burmese Pythons” or take a no-cost Python Patrol training. Please note FWC Python Removal Contractors are not eligible for incentives through the Python Pickup Program while working under a contract with the FWC.
You can submit pythons to the Python Pickup Program that have been killed from any property in Florida where you have authorization to do so from the land manager or land managing agency.
On private lands, pythons can be humanely killed at any time with landowner permission - no permit required- and the FWC encourages people to kill pythons from private lands whenever possible. The FWC allows pythons to be killed from 25 Commission-managed lands without a permit except on those portions of the areas posted as “Closed to Public Access.” People may seek authorization to remove pythons from other public lands on their own.
It’s easy to show proof of python with photographs! Simply take one or more photos of your python showing that the python has been killed and can be identified to species.
Email your photo(s) to Pythons@MyFWC.com. Write "Python Pickup" in the subject line. Be sure to include your name, date of capture, GPS location of capture, phone number, email address and home or mailing address. If it's your first submission, also include your t-shirt size.
The first time you submit proof of a python, you will receive a t-shirt after your submission has been accepted.
