The Florida Manatee Oceanaria Reimbursement Assistance Program provides funds for federally permitted facilities that rescue, rehabilitate, release and monitor Florida manatees. The Fish and Wildlife Research Institute has managed this program since 2000.

Funds available for reimbursement vary annually depending upon legislative appropriation. The current appropriation is $1.254 million. $50,000 is used to reimburse the facilities for rescues and field-based costs. $75,000 is used to help offset costs associated with monitoring the success of released manatees. Reimbursement amounts are calculated with a formula and do not reflect the actual costs incurred by the facilities.

Previous Fiscal Year Reimbursements

The Florida Manatee Oceanaria Reimbursement Assistance Program Table includes a list of funds reimbursed to ocenaria during previous fiscal years as well as the number of manatees treated and released by each facility.
