Climate Adaptation Internship

The FWC’s Climate Adaptation Team is seeking detail-oriented interns to assist with editing/writing, communications, and mapping duties in the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute's (FWRI) Tallahassee field office. Upper-level undergraduate and graduate students with skills, experience or strong interest in the following topics are encouraged to apply:

  • Writing and editing content
  • GIS mapping and modeling
  • Newsletter development
  • Drafting information for regional distribution
  • Data science and management
  • Website editing and management
  • Communication of climate change material

Applicants should be:

  • Highly motivated
  • Team players
  • Excellent written and verbal communicators
  • Skilled in analytical thinking and research
  • Interested in gaining experience in climate adaptation strategies for natural resources

Opportunities for field visits, meetings, and other relevant agency opportunities may also become available. There may also be other tasks associated with the internship that will include assisting with the Landscape Conservation Project.

Assigned projects are highly varied.  Interns will have a primary project focus and are required to present a poster on the work accomplished during their internship.

College credit (3 hours) is available to eligible students. Check with your department advisor at your home institution.

Qualifications:

You may qualify if you are:

  • a current upper-level undergraduate or graduate student who has relevant skills, experience or strong interest in climate adaptation tasks;
  • willing to edit and update the Florida Adaptation Guide and add species-level content;
  • willing to work 10 hours/week for a semester (16 weeks) in an unpaid, office-based position; and
  • in possession of at least a 3.0 GPA.
