Wildlife Viewing

Widlife Viewing at Perry Oldenburg

Wildlife viewing opportunities are highest along the powerline right-of-way and hiking trail system where white-tailed deer, turkey, southeastern kestrel and gopher tortoise are often seen. A variety of resident and migratory songbirds are commonly spotted and butterflies area attracted to fall wildflowers. Visit the Wildlife page for more details.

Hiking

Walking down Oldenburg Trail

Hikes are most pleasant in the cooler, winter season or early in the day in warmer months. Visitors may hike along the 1.5 mile trail through the sandhills and hardwood hammock and along the powerline right-of-way.

The trail travels through sandhill and hardwood hammock and skirts a wetland. A variety of plant and animal species can be seen along the mostly-flat trail. Be sure to scan the open powerline right-of-way for deer, wild turkey and gopher tortoises.
