Free Welcome to the Woods event near Sanford promises day of fun and adventure
Who: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and Florida Forest Service are sponsoring this event for the 23rd year.
What: The free event offers a variety of outdoor activities. Participants can fish at Bear Pond, hike along the National Florida Scenic Trail, learn to shoot a bow and arrow, take a covered trailer ride to Blackwater Creek, learn safe boating techniques, and take a short canoe or kayak trip. There also will be wildlife educational exhibits, a program on prescribed fire and live snakes. Participants should wear suitable clothing for light hiking and bring bug spray, sun block, snacks and water.
Where: The Seminole Forest Wildlife Management Area is off State Road 46 just west of the Wekiva River in northeast Lake County. At the intersection of State Road 46 and Wekiva River Road, turn north into the forest and follow the road down to the entrance gate.
When: Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and participants should arrive by 9 a.m.
Why: To introduce residents to wildlife areas and the recreational activities that are offered there.
