FWC working to trap bear in Longwood area
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is working to trap a bear in the Longwood area, and encourages everyone to use caution in the community.
The adult female bear and two yearlings have been spotted in the area of Longwood Springs Boulevard in Longwood. Seminole County area residents are encouraged to keep pets indoors or in bear-resistant enclosures, lock vehicle doors and be aware of their surroundings when outside.
FWC biologists believe the adult bear is responsible for attacking two dogs and opening and entering an unoccupied, parked vehicle. The FWC takes this situation seriously and is using all available resources to trap the bear. FWC staff have been canvassing the area, talking to residents and placing signs alerting residents to BearWise practices. BearWise practices include securing food attractants – such as garbage, pet food, and bird seed – keeping garage doors closed, and announcing your presence when going outdoors.
