2011 Florida Wild Turkey Distribution Assessment
In 2011, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) used a web-based mapping application to survey biologists' and other natural resource professionals’ knowledge of wild turkey distribution. Results of the survey accounted for about 65% of the state, necessitating extrapolation of the survey results to other areas based on habitat and proximity to known locations. The resulting dataset has been made available for viewing as a web-based, interactive map of predicted wild turkey occupancy. The FWC will use this information, in conjunction with habitat suitability data, to help identify and direct future wild turkey management efforts.
Please note: Although this information is useful for depicting the general location of turkeys within Florida, caution should be taken when considering small units, since this survey information was not intended for such close examination.
