Bonefish Recruitment Dynamics and Genetic Population Structure Study

Study Partners:

Collaborators have identified several bonefish spawning sites in the Bahamas. However, we don’t know if:

  • spawning groups are entirely supporting their local fishery
  • spawning groups in other areas contribute young bonefish to a local fishery
  • or some combination of these are the sources of new bonefish to local fisheries
  • Florida Keys bonefish may spawn in one or more groups, and all newly hatched larvae stay local. Alternatively, the Keys may also receive bonefish larvae that hatched from spawning groups located on other parts of the Caribbean, such as the Yucatan coast of Mexico.
