Okeechobee County Public Notice

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on April 17, 2024, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (Commission) received a complete application from Okeechobee County requesting approval of Ordinance No. _2023-0004_ which seeks to establish two Slow Speed Minimum Wake boating-restricted areas within Taylor Creek and Lake Okeechobee Rim Canal pursuant to 327.46, Florida Statutes (F.S.) and Rule 68D-21.004, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.).

This ordinance will be reviewed by the Commission pursuant to 327.46(1)(c)2c to determine whether there is substantial competent evidence demonstrating the requested boating-restricted area is necessary to protect the safety of the public and a determination issued within 30 days.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION: Pursuant to Rules 68D-21.002, and 68D-21.003, F.A.C., comments regarding this request will be accepted no more than 21 calendar days from the date of publication/distribution of this public notice. Public may provide written comments, recommendations, requests, inquiries, or other correspondence to the Boating and Waterways Section at 620 South Meridian Street, Tallahassee, FL 32399-1600; or by email at BoatingPublicComments@myfwc.com.

Working Group Meeting Set for May 21, 2024

The FWC is hosting its second in-person working group meeting to provide information and allow working group members to share viewpoints about a potential Silver Glen Springs Spring Protection Zone.

When: Tuesday, May 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

  • The working group does not serve in an advisory role or have decision-making authority. The purpose of this meeting is for the FWC and working group members to interact. Comments and questions for nonworking group members will be limited. Members of the public who attend this in-person meeting will have the opportunity to submit written comments. Written comments also may be submitted to BoatingPublicComments@myfwc.com
