Species Account: This species
was recorded at Fort Jefferson on Garden Key in the Dry Tortugas.
Photographs were taken in 1999. Occasional reports from previous
years were not believed to indicate an established species. This
species is native to tropical Asia but has been widely introduced
and is established in Puerto Rico (Pranty 2001 unpublished data).
The taxonomy of this genus has been confusing in the past, and this
species may include the Black-capped Manikin (Lonchura atricapilla)
(Robertson and Woolfenden 1992).
