The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) charged Steven K. Lacefield, 55, of Naples with two misdemeanors, the result of a six-month investigation into a 70-foot sunken sailboat in the Marco River.

Lacefield is the custodian and owner of the Delaware-registered vessel named the "Flying Fifty."

The vessel has been in a wrecked condition in public waters for 45 days.  It has been more than 30 days since Lacefield was notified of his responsibility to remove the vessel.  Lacefield has taken no action and made no attempt to remove the vessel, according to the FWC.

Lacefield has been charged with  failure to meet titling requirements and leaving or abandoning a derelict vessel on Florida's state waters.

The State Attorney's Office in Collier County is reviewing the case.

The vessel remains in the same location in the river. If the owner does not remove the vessel, the County would remove the vessel and charge Lacefield  the cost of removal.
