A 38-year-old Atlantic Beach woman died Saturday around 7:30 p.m., from injuries she sustained while riding a personal water craft (PWC) earlier in the day in St. Johns County.

Shannon Fralicker was riding in the Intracoastal Waterway north of St. Augustine in the area of Pine Island around 1:30 p.m., when she apparently hit a wake and was thrown hard against the handlebars of the vessel.

Fralicker and her companion, Nathan Cotton, 30, of Jacksonville Beach, were riding separate PWCs when the accident occurred. Cotton was not injured. Fralicker was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Jacksonville where she later died.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Division of Law Enforcement is investigating the accident.  The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
