Small game hunters have a new hunting opportunity in Marion County this season called the Marshall Swamp Public Small Game Hunting Area. This is a cooperative effort of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Greenways and Trails.

The small game hunting area is located east of Maricamp Road, at the eastern end of Midway Road about six miles south of Ocala. Legal to hunt are wild hog, gray squirrel, quail, rabbit and certain migratory game birds in season.

The small game season is Nov. 8 through March 1; migratory bird season varies with the species, but the first phase of dove season is under way now through Oct. 27. For specifics on seasons, hunting times, bag limits, access and more, visit MyFWC.com/hunting/wma/2008-09/Northeast/MarshallSwamp.pdf. PDF file

Marshall Swamp is open to foot traffic all year. Vehicles are allowed only in designated parking areas.
