Going…going…Safe! FWC Lt. Ed Cates demonstrates the latest in
life jacket technology to draw attention to National Safe
Boating Week, which runs May 19-25. New life jackets are little
more than belts until they touch water and inflate automatically
or manually. FWC spokesmen said the new type of life jacket
eliminates the complaint that life jackets are too uncomfortable
to wear routinely. The new life jackets start at about $50
retail. Drowning is the number-one cause of death in boating
accidents.
