status

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission (FWC) is asking the public for information and data
on the biological status of the peregrine falcon until the end
of July.
The Commission is requesting specific
information about population size and trends, distribution and
range, threats to the species, published population viability
models, and specific aspects of the species’ life history that
may influence its status.
The request for information is part of the first
phase of a two-phase process the FWC uses to classify imperiled
species. Florida’s three imperiled classifications are
endangered, threatened and species of special concern.
During its June meeting, the Commission
established a biological review panel to evaluate the bird’s
current endangered species status. Staff will present the
panel’s biological assessment at a future FWC meeting with
Commissioners making the final listing determination.
Local, county, state and federal agencies,
stakeholders and the public may submit written comments to: Dr.
James A. Rodgers Jr., Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission, 4005 S. Main St., Gainesville, FL 32601 or by e-mail
to peregrine@MyFWC.com. The deadline for submitting comments is
5 p.m. July 31. |
