North portion of KICCO WMA closed to hunting

November 9, 2007
Contact: Lee Taylor, 863-648-3200

The northern portion of KICCO Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will be closed to hunting this season due to ongoing construction.  The South Florida Water Management District has requested the closure over safety concerns while a water-control structure and levee are being built.

Hunters should know that the closed portion of KICCO encompasses the entire area between River Ranch Boulevard, the Kissimmee River and State Road 60.  The closed portion is marked on the KICCO WMA map as “open during the general gun hog hunt season only,” but contrary to information on the map, this portion is closed until further notice.

The northern portion of the WMA will reopen when construction and restoration efforts are complete.  Because of ongoing restoration planning, it is not known when the affected area will reopen to hunters.

If you would like a map or more information about KICCO WMA, visit MyFWC.com, click on “Hunting,” and then go to “2007-2008 Individual WMA Regulations and Maps.”
