Hunter safety classes offered throughout region

April 19, 2007
Contact: Leslie Vincino (352) 625-2804

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Hunter Safety program is offering several hunter education classes throughout the spring and summer in central Florida.

Hunter safety certification is required for anyone born on or after June 1, 1975 in order to purchase a Florida hunting license. It’s a good idea for those who plan to hunt next fall to take a class now, and not wait until the last minute and risk not getting into a class later.

Unless otherwise indicated, to register for classes call (352) 625-2804, or register online at MyFWC.com/huntered/ and follow the links. May classes will be held at the locations and times listed below.

To receive hunter safety certification, students must successfully complete the course by attending all class sessions, pass a written exam and participate on the firing range. Class materials, guns and ammunition will be provided, but participants must bring their own pen, pencil and paper to take notes. Plan to arrive 30 minutes early to pick up class paperwork and sign registration papers. Classes begin promptly at times noted.

The course covers survival, wildlife identification, hunting laws, ethics, first aid and gun safety, and is required for anyone born on or after June 1, 1975 in order to purchase a Florida hunting license.
